Coal mine of Russia’s TopProm in Kemerovo collapses, kills miner

MOSCOW/KEMEROVO, Feb 15 (PRIME) -- A coal mine of Russian industrial holding TopProm in the Kemerovo Region has collapsed killing one miner, a representative of the Emergency Ministry of Russia told PRIME and the Investigative Committee said in a statement on February 14.

“We’ve received a message that a rock slide happened at a belt entry of coal company Yubileynaya Mine in the Novokuznetsky District with 98 workers present in the entry, of which 97 were brought to surface and one died,” the office said in the statement.

“The investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Kemerovo Region are doing a pre-investigation review. Preliminary information says that the collapse happened while the victim was breaking the rock mass using a multi-purpose machine. We are currently discovering all circumstances of the event and the cause of death.”

TopProm acquired the mine in 2013. Its commercial reserves of coal amount to 53.6 million tonnes, and annual production capacity to 2 million tonnes.
